My name is Jacob Kohn and like everyone else on this course, I consider myself a writer.
My overall goal is to one day write screenplays that are produced in their entirety, be it for film or TV. However, if I can make a living through writing copy, and perhaps some sort of journalistic job, I would be happy. I currently work as the head copywriter for a couple of small businesses and record labels, all the while building my freelancing profile.
For years, my primary focus in writing was to be funny, but as they say, “dying is easy, comedy is difficult”, and through writing frankly about issues such as my own mental health on my blog, I have learnt that being a humourist is not the be all and end all of my creative identity. I am Jewish, and I have Asperger’s syndrome (high-functioning I promise), and while I don’t think these things define me, I enjoy integrating these aspects of who I am into my writing.
While writing is my primary passion, I also spend a lot of time DJing and producing music, cooking elaborate meals, as well as doing parkour and staying fit.
